Voted “Best in Class”

sport auto readers' choice – 42 % for the BMW ALPINA D3 Bi-Turbo

The enthusiasts of automotive driving pleasure have made their choice and elected the ALPINA

3 Series diesel the sportiest diesel series-production vehicle in 2014.

Within its category 42 % of the votes went to the BMW ALPINA D3 Bi-Turbo as the best Sport Diesel, followed by the BMW M550d xDrive with 20 % and the Porsche Panamera Diesel in third place with 14 % of the votes.

The readers of sport auto magazine have been electing their sporty favourites in various classes every year since 1980. In the meantime, the sport auto Award has become a major institution and indicator in terms of sports car quality.

The BMW ALPINA D3 Bi-Turbo, presented at the IAA last year, generates a high level of interest in the sporty and luxurious middle class segment. It now combines in third generation extraordinary performance data and excellent efficiency with familiar and appreciated ALPINA virtues. It is not without reason that the D3 became the most-sold BMW ALPINA of all time. In the current model works the very same straight-six 3-litre diesel with bi-turbo charging that is also used in the D5 Bi-Turbo and the XD3. It accelerates the 3 series with 257 kW (350 bhp) and 700 Nm from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Impressive values, and all that at an average fuel consumption of 5.6 to 5.3 l/100 km combined. The readers of sport auto are obviously of the same opinion and give the D3 Bi-Turbo the most votes in the “Diesel” category of the Award.
